This morning as we were driving to gymnastics class, “I’m Still Standing” came on the radio (sometimes I enjoy the comfort of Suburban Mom Soft Rock, WHAT OF IT?).
Little Miss Sunshine informed me that “when I was a baby, I used to love this song!”
I told her it was sung by Elton John.
The Little Miss thought that I had said, “Elt AND John.”
Then we had a five minute debate in which she insisted that it was being sung by only ONE person, and so why did I tell her it was sung by TWO people, when clearly, there was only ONE singer, and I was wrong, meanwhile I just kept repeating “ELTON JOHN” over and over again like an idiot, and wondered why, exactly, we were having this conversation, again?
It was one of those moments that are so exasperating and yet so adorable. This is what makes being a parent so cool.
Then some AC/DC came on and I had to shut off the radio because even I have my limits.
Bahahaha! I have those arguments often with dearest daughter. “Exasperating and yet so adorable” is exactly what it is. And I wouldn’t change a thing… except when I’m in a rush and don’t have time for a debate.
Oh, that’s like the time that Hana insisted that the line in If I Had a Million Dollars was “I would buy you some art / Of a castle or a Garfunkel” instead of “A Picasso or a Garfunkel”. Drove me BONKERS arguing with her, but it makes me smile when I think of it now.
Today Eve was reading Junie B. Jones and she asked me what a sigh was. I heaved one. She looked at me for a minute, then brightened and said “oh! I get it! At first I thought you were just tired of me asking questions.”
I love the ‘when I was a baby’. I get that all the time from my son, but it’s more like ‘when I was a little boy I used to….” Um, honey, you still are a little boy! 🙂
Nicola went to see Elton John at Copp’s Colosseum a few months ago, and when I’m Still Standing came on, a gian biker dude got up and started dancing in the aisles.
That song has its fans.
“Little Miss Sunshine informed me that “when I was a baby, I used to love this song!””
She remembers what she liked when she was a baby?? LOL.
Elton John is great, though I have to say that I hate his Lion King songs though. Partly because we had to learn them in my horrific junior high music class and partly because they’re cheesy as hell!
