The other day I got an email alerting me to the fact that there are only 30 tickets left for BlogHer ’10. I had to just sigh and delete it. It’s officially official, I won’t be going to BlogHer again this year… can I hear a whoo hoo for BlogHer ’11?
On the plus side, I’ll definitely be organizing Blog Out Loud again this year. I am planning to have it sometime in the first half of July; most likely on a Thursday evening again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
I loved having it at Raw Sugar last year, but if the event grows by even one person then we’re in trouble in terms of size, so I think I have to move it. I’m currently looking for a unique and fun location downtown somewhere, that serves food and drink, that can host up to 100 people. Any suggestions?
I’ll have more details on the readings and such as we get closer to the date. I’m just looking to nail down the venue soon, so I can have a real day and time to aim towards. I work so much better with a deadline!
while i think blogher is interesting, i do love the smaller local gatherings from a readers stand point. it’s easier to become part of a community of blogger that way, and comments are more interesting when the commenters are familiar etc.
blogher isn’t even on my radar and I don’t know what blog out loud is, but you know I’m there for you whenever you need me. With Pringles.
How did I not know that you were the force behind Blog Out Loud? That is SO pants!
Yay! I am excited for Blog Out Loud. Let me know if I can do anything to help.
I just can’t see myself at Blogher. I think it’s for people who take their blogging way more seriously in terms of being either a business or a soapbox than I do. I like the idea of getting together with other bloggers in a smaller gathering…though I’m also half convinced I’ll say something completely ridiculous to embarrass myself and you’ll all realise what an utter goofball I am.
But hey! if I can make it, I’m in.
BOLO is back. Yay!
I recomment Lagos at Dow’s Lake. I attended an event there recently and it’s PERFECT.
Yeah BOLO!!! Woohooo!!! Andrea’s suggestion sounds great. And although it’s not downtown, I’ll (selfishly) suggest Manotick’s wine cellar. Can’t wait!
I really want to come to BOLO this year! Can’t wait!
I think that the Elmdale Tavern or Carleton Tavern would be able to accommodate.
For downtown:
– Ignite Ottawa (http://ignite.oreilly.com/2009/10/ignite-ottawa—november-12-2009.html) was last held at the Velvet Room (62 1/2 York Street). That event saw at least 100 attendees. Ignite had several speakers.
– Most recent GenYOTT (http://genyott.eventbrite.com/) was held at the Mercury Lounge (56 Byward Market Square).
– I have heard of a number of large charity events held at Foundation (18B York Street)
Just outside of downtown:
How about the Urban Element (Hintonburg) or Divino Studios (Little Italy).
Let me know what I can do to help, Lynn. Perhaps we should take it to Twitter and see if we can’t rally some community support on the venue, and maybe even food. It’s been said, but the Urban Element is pretty wicked. Imagine the power of captive bloggers heaping praise on a local business or two!
Definitely up for it… again.
Let me think on venue…
