This morning, at breakfast.
Gal Smiley, 12 years old: Mom, what can I eat for breakfast?
Me: There’s no bread, I’m sorry – maybe some cereal?
Gal: I don’t feel like it.
Me: There’s lots of fruit, or you could have cheese and crackers, or a bun with butter.
Gal: Do we have any broccoli?
Me: ….uh, yes?
Gal: Will you make me some?
Me: For breakfast?
Gal: Yes.
(Makes a whole head of broccoli. Kid eats it.)
Gal: That was awesome!
Twelve years old is WEIRD.
SHE IS MY DAUGHTER!
I FOUND MY SOULMATE!
I have weird broccoli cravings. It… comes and goes. I also have cravings for: carrots, celery and leeks. Okay, I crave more normal stuff as well, but veggie cravings are a thing.
12 yr old kid is cool, awesome and healthy! That’s the best!!
Love it! I have always found the “normal” carbohydrate breakfast foods off-putting. I appreciate the unconventional thinking.
Yum!
Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one who runs out of bread. 🙂
Okay, but I have to know – how did you cook it? Did you steam it? Or roast it? I haven’t yet tried roasted broccoli but it’s supposed to be amazing.
I did roast it! I think that’s the key. Cut up the florets, toss with a small amount of oil (you have to toss a LOT to get it to spread around), a small sprinkle of salt. Spread on a cookie sheet lined with parchment and roast for around 25 minutes at 400 degrees. It’s like eating a bowl of chips.
