Eeeeeet-see

Last night a gal pal that I haven’t seen in a couple of years called me up. She’s coming to town, which is so great, I’m really looking forward to it.

We chatted a bit and since she has always been a crafty person, talk turned to Etsy. I said, “Have you heard about Et-see?” And she said, “You mean, Eeet-see?” And I was like, “Oh my GOD, is it really eet-see? I’ve been pronouncing it wrong all this time? And I call myself an Etsy addict!”

As soon as I got off the phone call I raced to my laptop to see if I could confirm this shocking turn of events. While I was searching, Sir Monkeypants told me about this one time in high school that he was talking about Lord Of The Rings with his friend Tom, and Tom referred to the main character as “Frawdo,” much to the horror of all around him. And I totally understood how he felt.

But as it turns out, I was right. It is et-see (rhymes with Betsy). I confirmed it by watching a little video on the site, put together by the founders. They all say et-see, too.

Whew. I can now return, triumphant, to my regular daily schedule of Etsy surfing, head held high. Thank goodness!

I knew someone who pronounced the term U.R.L (a.k.a. the address of a website) as URL … rhyming with Earl.

    ?

p.s. I called it Et-see too. I am addicted, as you can see by the “faves” page that I update almost every single day.

And I’m expecting a package today!!

  2. I’ve often checked out your faves page and found new things to add to my own. Tragically. I would put my own faves embed on my blog (so people can buy me things! Pretty pretty things!) but sadly, when I picked out my Etsy ID I used my full name, first and last, and Sir Monkeypants is very tense about internet privacy. I’ve been thinking of creating a new Etsy ID just so I can share my picks with the world but that would involve moving over hundreds (scary!) of favourite items, so….maybe some day when I have a LOT of free time!

  3. thank goodness you confirmed it’s etsy like betsy because that’s how i say it. now how do you say bowrings (you know the china shop)? oh and robeez (the kids leather shoes)?

  4. Porter — looks like I’m two for three. Robeez is “Rawb-eeze”, like in the name “Rob” (the founder’s son). I got that one right. But in the store name, the “bow” part rhymes with cow — I always said “boe-ring” but it’s more like “bahw-ring”. Doh!
