Last night I was watching Veronica Mars with Sir Monkeypants and I mentioned that the sheriff on the show, played by Michael Muhney, would be a great TheRarGuy in a movie about his life. Sir Monkeypants wholeheartedly agrees, so RarGuy, consider yourself cast!

I concur! That would work.
Yes, I see the resemblance — however, he’s kinda evil, don’t you think? The sheriff, I mean, not .
Speaking of VM, what do you think of it this season? Seems to have sort of lost its way.
The way he talks, too, reminds me of . It’s a good match. I don’t think he (the sheriff) is too evil, either — he’s mean to Veronica and too pompus, but he does seem to care about law enforcement — he’s not on the take or anything. I guess he has to be kind of an idiot on the show, or else too much of Keith and Veronica’s work would be, “Okay, I have some evidence, time to hand it over to the cops,” instead of taking things on themselves.
I’m still a faithful viewer of VM, but I agree, it’s no first season. Better than last season, though, I think. One of the things I don’t like is that on this new network, they don’t have the budget to have all the regular characters on all the time — only Veronica and Keith are in every episode. I miss Wallace and Mac.
I recently read that the last five episodes of the season will be stand-alones — no big mystery. At first I thought that was a bad thing, but now I think it might rejuvenate the show a little bit. We’ll see how they go. If those last five episodes get good ratings, I hear, the CW is thinking of bringing the show back next season with all stand-alones. I’ll miss the power of the first-season mystery that was concluded so brilliantly, but on the other hand, not having to force characters into a big mystery might be a good thing.
Either way I’m sure I’ll keep watching!
Ahhh .. I wondered what happened to Wallace. So, it’s a budget thing. I don’t like a lot of the new characters from this season, although Ed Begley Jr was surprisingly good.
Yeah, I know the sheriff isn’t evil. I just can’t stand the way he seems so simple-minded. However, he did a very good thing when Duncan and Veronica discovered Meg’s dad’s abuse of her sister (I think that’s who it was — 2nd season was a bit of a blur for me).
I’m not sure how I feel about the stand-alones. But you’re right that I think they’ve been forcing mysteries since season 1 — season 2 ended so stupidly and the mystery in the first half of this season made me feel icky for some reason. It was creepy.
Hmmm … it just occurred to me that Kristen Bell might be a good casting call for you. Agree?
Oh my goodness, Kristen Bell!! That is just so incredibly flattering that I feel I can’t accept. It’s like someone giving you a gift of a $10,000 diamond necklace on the third date!
But if the producers really felt that she would be the right call, then who am I to stand in their way?? 🙂
sure likes the casting idea :).
I like both your casting ideas for the_rar_guy and turtle_head!
We started watching VM last year after watching an episode with turtle_head, fame_throwa, and sirmonkeypants last year. We rented seasons one and two and have watched half of season three and one episode of season four (thanks to the lack of consistent scheduling we kept missing episodes – I guess the show never really took off in Canada). Anyway, we totally know who you are talking about (and I didn’t read your last few comments on this post since I didn’t want to ruin the surprise! Perhaps over this year we’ll get the chance to rent seasons three and four – it’s pretty intense to watch an entire season worth of VM over a weekend).
Well I’m totally flattered – that guy is way better looking than I am! I guess this officially shatters the previous comparison I got to a Hollywood actor years ago (by some random strangers) that I looked a lot like David Duchovny. And given that I can be mean, evil, pompous and passionate about law enforcement, all at the same time, I think you are on to something. And yes Turtle_Head would be well-represented by Kristen Bell, provided the writers came along for the ride. She gets all the best lines.
Oh and I would like to offer up Verne Troyer as my choice to play the little guy! (more apt since the recent loss of newborn hair)
We think he looks like you but also there is something about the way he talks that reminds us of you. Maybe it was just that one episode, but when I suggested the casting out loud, was all, “EXACTLY!” like he had been thinking the exact same thing.
Verne is way not cute enough for your little one. He’ll just have to play himself. I hope you and are ready for the influx of fans and fame! Be sure to get at least $15 for a handprint on eBay.
I’m so happy to hear you checked out season one of VM! It was the best season. Season two had some great episodes but the overall mystery (the bus crash) wasn’t as good. So far I’ve heard a lot of criticism of season three but actually, I am enjoying it a lot. (The current season is actually only the third season). Good writing and good acting, too!
I think I’ve cast you in the past but now I can’t remember. I’ll have to give it some thought :).
If you are up for it, I think it would be cool to post one consolidated list of your picks for casting call for all of us. For barky_shark my pick has long been Bridget Fonda, fyi.
Bridget Fonda is perfect! Just the right mix of perky, smart, and attractive :).
One reason I started putting my casting ideas in my blog is that I am notorious for forgetting them. I’ll think of the perfect cast, and usually I’ll tell about it, and then the next week, it’s out of my head. I’ll try to do some recall though.
has always wanted Pierce Brosnan for , but I don’t know about that…hm. Also he has cast Parminder Nagra (of ER fame and the movie Bend It Like Beckham) as which I quite like. Recently we settled on Tina Fey for and I like that one too, although she is perhaps a little old for the part. If they were making a movie about a young , I’m sad to say I would have to go with Lindsay Lohan — she does seem to have the right look and mannerisms.
For my youngest sister, it’s Drew Barrymore, now and forever :).
I always thought for you, turtle_head, that Marcia Gay Harden or the Mom on that show that I never watch but perhaps you do, oh what’s it called? The Mom works in (or owns?) a diner and has one daughter. I know both are far too old and not as pretty, but I think they would have come close in their younger years.
I agree with Drew on your little sis, oh and so true about Lindsay, too! I have to admit I don’t mind LL too much, she seems to be a good actress, a bit screwed up but at least she’s admitting it.
Gilmore Girls – Lauren Graham.
Lindsay Lohan – c’mon! She just doesn’t seem smart enough. Maybe it’s just a lack of maturity. I would vote for Kirsten Dunst. She’s not exactly a lookalike for , but in interviews she seems to be both smart and wise, if that makes any sense.
The rest I agree with, esp lil’ sis’.
What about ?
I think we must have thought that season 3 ended when the campus rape mystery was solved, and the dean was shot, because after that the station we watch it on started back at episode 1 of season 3 again. It’s been mega-frustrating to watch 3 seasons of a TV show in totally random order!
I keep wondering why they don’t move the show to be online only and try selling access to the fan base. It seems there would be enough fans out there to support this type of distribution.
Oh, and yes, I also thought Ed Begley was surprisingly awesome.
I’m sure you will think I am crazy, but has and always will be Kevin Costner. I think that may have been the first casting I ever did.
As for Kirsten Dunst…okay, I’m not saying that she wouldn’t be a match. But I really dislike that chick. So I can’t cast her as in good conscience. She’s just one small step above Juliette Lewis, in my world!
I’d be proud to have Lauren Graham play me, I think she’s super sassy. But I must admit, Marcia Gay Harden is a pretty good physical match. I’ve never considered her before, but great suggestion, ! Now I’ll have to go out and rent every movie she’s ever done so I can confirm the casting :).
I saw Kirsten Dunced in an interview when Spiderman was out. And she struck me as very blonde; I apologize to all of the blondes that I am offending, especially Kristen Bell.
Lately I’ve been thinking that Jennifer Morrison of House is the right casting for . I think it’s her new haircut but .. even hair aside it’s not a bad match.
And no offense to Marcia Gay Harden, but I’m totally backing the Kristen Bell casting call. You’re out Marcia!
What’s wrong with Kirsten Dunst? She’s actually pretty funny in interviews, at least the one she did at CityTV (MuchMusic), she totally slammed the dud of a host for repeatedly mispronouncing her name, totally made me laugh and put her a peg higher in my books.
As for , if he was an actor I would cast Ian Hanomansing. I agree, it’s not a good match, the age and height are all wrong, but there’s something about the way they both talk – they are both so matter of fact. Of course, Kevin Costner isn’t too bad a casting for him, either.
Glad you like the Lauren Graham casting vote. Will you really rent all MGH movies? Get back to me when you have determined if my casting of you was accurate. 🙂
Oh ya, and for , she could easily be played by Pamela Anderson! Likes rocker guys, quirky sense of humor, and they just look so similar!
YES!!! I’m so glad that someone else sees in Lauren Graham! Everytime I see that show, it immediately makes me think of TH. Btw, TH, I think Lauren Graham is great, so just in case you don’t, know that it is meant in a positive way.
I recently saw a picture of on the TH/SMP family website and I have to say the Tina Fey casting really resonates with me.
Hee hee. This post was just to see if I was reading LJ, right?
I know we look quite similar right now, but as soon as I’m done nursing the little guy, two of the similarities will probably go away (I hope).
Jeez, I sure hope not! In fact, we should look into having another one right away 🙂
Though I’ve always been extremely flattered by the comparison, I fail to see anything but the most remote resemblance between Pierce Brosnan and me. I still don’t know who would be best for me; likes Edward Norton, but I don’t think that’s a great fit though.
I completely agree with Kevin Costner for — absolutely not crazy. (I think I even noticed the resemblance independently of you.) That seems like a perfect fit for me (well, Kevin might need to tan up a bit).
As far as Parminder Nagra for , maybe the look is a so-so match, but personality-wise I don’t see the resemblance at all. I think a Charlie’s Angels-era Kate Jackson would be great, though.
And even though I’m not sure I’ve even met in person (or maybe at most briefly), somehow I’ve always thought Tina Fey would be perfect for her.
Did you think about this casting will affect me? And how will Kristen feel having been pushed aside? I’m not sure that you people have your priorities straight. Lauren’s on a long running series; she’ll bounce back.
Personal fantasies aside, I have to admit that I’m not unhappy with the Lauren Graham casting. I can’t say that I see the connection, but .. it’s been a really long time since I’ve watched any Gilmore Girls. Actually, I don’t think I ever have. I’ll have to check it out.
I heard that PA also has a thing for vulcans and is good at math. The similarities are uncanny; I can’t believe I never noticed the resemblance before!
Hey, that wasn’t me! stole my password!
But I will add, the Pamela thing is freakin’ hilarious.
Kate Jackson! Okay, you clearly have no idea that when little girls used to play “Charlie’s Angels”, no one wanted to be Kate Jackson. I had to be Sabrina a few times. Somehow I think I would rather have been Bosley.
Let’s go with Kristen then. Be warned that the guys I know can’t stand Gilmore Girls. I think the banter is hilarious, but it’s non-stop and you can tire of it quickly. If you do decide to watch it, you may want to turn on the mute!
I agree with that no girl wanted to be Sabrina when playing Charlie’s Angels. She was the “ugly” one, so no comparison to in my mind.
Not sure why people are making fun of me casting Pamela Anderson for .
As for you , perhaps Jim Carrey? It’s not quite right either, I think we’ll still have to hold auditions for you.
Watch Bad Santa instead. At least it has “scenes unsuitable for children” instead of “scenes unsuitable for men.”
“Ugly”? I just don’t get that. Maybe the other two were more ‘pinup-worthy’, in a 14-year-old boy fantasy sort of way, but this guy would choose Sabrina over any of her co-stars without a second thought (even as a 14-year-old, I daresay).
I guess for me Farrah Fawcett was disqualified pretty much immediately for being blonde (that’s not a blonde joke, I just prefer dark hair), and Jaclyn Smith was just too girly for me (so much makeup – yuck!). Plus, wasn’t Sabrina essentially the smart one? Definitely a big plus. (And I’m sure I remember reading that she made twice as much as the others too.)
I don’t want this to descend into a “who’s the best Angel” flamewar, but I felt I at least had to defend my choice in the face of such negativity!
i’m preparing my schedule this summer to play rar_guy. just let me know when and where…
😉
Hilarious! I’ll let you know when I get that big Hollywood casting director gig.
This probably goes without saying, but it’s a shame they killed off Sheriff Lamb over on Veronica Mars. I’ll definitely miss the Lamb/Keith Mars banter. We’ll be keeping an eye on your upcoming projects!
Let me know if you’d like help preparing for the role. I recommend watching “Office Space” and reading lots of Dilbert comics, to get an idea of what my working life is like. Oh, and listen to plenty of Iron Maiden, too.
BTW, I’m curious to know who you would cast to play you.
