I freakin’ ADORE those ads for Reitmans clothing store featuring women in everyday situations — getting off the escalator at the mall, gathering up laundry, delivering a burnt turkey to the dinner table — strutting around and posing like runway models. I’ve been known to actually snort with laughter when they come on. Even after repeated viewings I still laugh out loud at them, every single time. I’m even considering shopping there.
Clearly I need more sleep.
Man, with the PVR, I don’t think we ever watch live TV anymore. There’s always something taped to watch, and even when we do want to watch something that’s on right now, we wait 15 minutes to start it so that we can skip the commercials. I tell ya, it’s a whole different world with this wonderful device, even if it is buggy… Hope you’re enjoying yours, again, despite the bugs.
So cool – we (or at least I) do exactly the same thing. Not only do I not rush home from something so I can catch the start of my favorite show – I purposely avoid catching the beginning. I’ll find something else to do for 15 minutes, then jump in, rewind, and skip all the commercials. If I time it just right, I end up watching the last segment live. I think a half-hour of TV is supposed to have about 23 minutes of actual content, so I guess for a 1-hour show, you start at 14 minutes after the hour, and then you end right at the next hour (so you can switch the channel for the next show without missing anything!)
Sadly, I heard recently that TiVo (which is what we use) is designing a new “feature” that shows ads on-screen while you fast-forward over commercials – damn! They always get us somehow! In defense of advertisers, ad revenue is what makes all the shows we watch possible, so I suppose we shouldn’t complain. Still, I think it’s fair game to try and outwit them in any way – let the people who are too lazy to find a workaround watch the commercials!
We are enjoying ours very much — has ironed out the bugs and now it is working great.
Too great, actually — I think I have about 10 hours of stuff queued up that I haven’t watched yet, and we’re still in the first half of the TV season! Yikes.
