Sweet Treats

I’m finding it very hard to shop for my father-in-law and brother-in-law this year for Christmas. We’ll be seeing them both in about two weeks for the last time before the holidays and I need some ideas pronto!

One of my ideas is to get them both a food gift, some sort of (relatively) exotic and special sweet treat. Does anyone know of a (sort of) unique and funky chocolate shop or bakery in the Ottawa area that sells cool treats, that you’d recommend?

  1. make them a gift basket full of snacky food. eg: spiced almonds, bits and bites, peanut brittle, cranberry and nut white chocolate brittle, cranolla mix, caramel popcorn. gotta go, hungry now.

  2. Oooh, Truffle Treasures in Westboro is my favourite place for sweet treats. It’s not cheap, but they’re the best. You should also check the Ottawa Bagel Shop. You can easily buy a basket of gourmet goodies there too.

Sorry Andrea but Truffle Treasures has closed. I think they might have moved closer to Parkdale? They’re one of hte many victims of the high rents on Richmond Rd in Westboro.

Now, that said, there’s a new Candy Store that’s just moved in…I think to their spot. Definitely to their strip mall. I was in there a week or so ago and picked up some really great licorice drops. I also bought some Cadbury Flake only to discover that they charge approximately $1 per bar more than the Scottish/Irish store out in Bells Corners.

Anyhow, either that Candy Store or the Scottish/Irish store are my places to get interesting foods.

The Scottish/Irish store is in the same mall with Beddington’s on Robertson…on the left side of the Road if you’re coming from Moodie.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I will check it out.

According to the Truffle Treasures website, they are still open for business in Westboro, with a Richmond Road address (314 Richmond). Their number is still in service too (although I just got a machine when I called). So seems like they are still out there, somewhere…and worst case, there is one in the Glebe, too.

I’m off on a field trip tomorrow with the JKs but on Wednesday I’m going to check out the Scottish store — if nothing else my mother would LOVE some scottish treats added to her Christmas gift! There is also a chocolate shop in that same mall in Belll’s Corners — Louise’s — which FameThrowa recommended. Yay, chocolate!

I just drove past Truffle Treasures this morning in Westboro (across from Tiggywinkles/Lost marbles) and someone was walking out of it with a bag in hand so I’m guessing they are open for business.

Ok so now I’m confused. I had heard they were moving. And then when I was in Westboro 2 weeks ago there was this new candy store in approximately the same place….the same strip mall/building for sure.

So, what was in the place that now has the candy store?

And Truffle Treasures isn’t across from Mrs Tiggywinkles…it’s in the next block between Lululemon and MEC. Did it just move one block?

Now I’m thinking I must take a shopping trip to Westboro. Always dangerous…
