It’s October, so time to think about NaBloPoMo — that’s National Blog Posting Month. It’s a contest/writing exercise where you post every single day for the month of November. I did NaBloPoMo last year and it was fantastic — I loved working writing into my daily schedule, and I found so many fantastic new blogs to read. It really opened my eyes to blogging as a wider community and I felt excited to be a part of that.
I think I’m going to join again this year, although it won’t be quite as earth-shattering. Since NaBloPoMo last year, I’ve gone from blogging a few times a month to several times a week, so I no longer feel like I have a huge backlog of things to say that are just dying to get out. Still, I could probably fill 30 days with posts. Who doesn’t want to hear about what I had for breakfast? No one, I say!
I was just updating my NaBlo Profile Page and now it’s ready to go. Who’s with me?
I tried last November and didn’t quite manage it. Tried again a couple more times through the year (now that NaBloPoMo is kinda year-round), but never managed to actually do daily posts then either.
But what the heck, eh! I’m nothing if not persistent. I’ll give it another try.
Here’s my profile.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Okay, I had fun last year, but it also finished me off for the next 4 months. I’m not making any more crazy commitments like that. Although I did meet a lot of really cool people.
Hmmmmm.
Count me in for the third consecutive year!
I might do it this year. Do I have to do it officially and post a pic of myself and everything?
Porter — you can always just post every day in November by yourself, if you are just interested in the exercise, but to qualify for the prizes involved (small things that other bloggers give away), you need to be officially registered. To register you have to create a page on the NaBloPoMo webring, but you don’t have to give any personal details — you don’t need to upload a photo (you can leave it blank, or upload any icon as your logo), you don’t need to put any personal details in your profile, you don’t need to join any social networks or anything like that. Once you have your page on the webring, you need to send an email to the organizer (see the FAQ tab for details) to officially declare that you are in for the month of November.
Beyond that, there are groups you can join like “Canadian parents” or “Canadian bloggers” or “bloggers who knit” or whatever — it’s a great way to find other bloggers that share your interests. There’s also a “randomizer” tab that will take you to any random participant. I found lots of great blogs this way last year!
Of course, now I spend an hour a day reading blogs. It’s worth it though :).
I can’t do it. But I do wish you all the best of luck! I’ve hit the blogging wall and it just pains me to think of writing something every single day.
I will agree that I did find some really great reads last year and now I spend hours reading about other people and their lives. I might become have become more of a lurker than a blogger. But that term sounds so gosh darned creepy, I’d prefer to call myself a blogger on hiatus.
