It’s laundry day today. My basic laundry day is four loads — white, grey/tan, kids’ darks, parents’ darks (split because it’s too much for one load).
How would you sort the following items?
- Ottawa Senator’s white hockey jersey, with logo on front and black/red stripes on sleeves
- light grey sweatshirt with navy blue sleeves
- white underpants with little red flowers
- chocolate brown sweater with cream-coloured patches on shoulders
- white flannel jammies with a red/blue Strawberry Shortcake pattern
- polo shirt with deep red, chocolate brown, and white stripes, with a white collar
Hm.
From years of getting my laundry done at camp, here is my system to deal with situations like this:
Question 1: How likely is this to bleed into other clothes? If likely, put it in with the darks.
Question 2: How much do I care if this gets bled into? ie: do I care if I wind up with pink underwear? If not, put it wherever.
I find it helps.
There’s no “colours” category! I am known for having about nine laundry categories, so this hurts my brain. 🙂
Barring that, I would sort the items as follows:
Sens jersey – darks (assuming you wash your darks in cold).
Light grey sweatshirt – grey/tan
White undies – white
Chocolate brown sweater – darks
White flannel jammies – white
Polo shirt – darks
You mean, like a “brights” category? I was going to explain that the “kids’ darks” is kind of like a brights, because it’s mostly reds, yellows, and greens, while the “parents’ darks” is more blacks and navy blues…but I thought there was a definite limit to how interested others were in the fine details of my laundry :).
I agree with your sort choices except for the Sens jersey, which I washed with the greys. Now I’m all paranoid that I’m going to end up with a load of pink-grey stuff. I have to run to the washer to check!
Do you care if you have pink underwear?
On the advice of council, I decline to answer.
Sens jersey – with the grey/tan
grey sweatshirt with blue sleeves – ditto
underpants with flowers – with the whites
brown sweater – darks
white flannel jammies – with the grey/tan
polo shirt – with the darks
I’m probably filtering this a little bit through my own laundry scheme which is similar to yours, but I generally do the whites in hot water, so I’m a little fussier about what goes in there. I also generally do one load of cold water wash and one load of delicates.
