Last night I caught the last half of American Idol, the first time I’ve watched it this season (and, I think, possibly the first time I have ever watched it beyond the open-audition episodes). I’d just been reading a lot about the contestents in, oh, every single entertainment magazine and website in existance, and that made me a little curious, and there was nothing else on, and I was too sick to make it to the DVD player to put something in, so there you go.
The featured star last night was Dolly Parton. I submit to you this: Dolly Parton has had too much plastic surgery.

Right after American Idol was over, Dancing With The Stars came on, and I saw the first five minutes of that before I dragged my sick ass to bed. Dancing With The Stars is featuring Priscilla Presley this season, and I submit to you this: Priscilla Presley has had too much plastic surgery.

These are both women who are famous, who depend on their look and their face to be recognised as part of their careers. They have both the money and the contacts to seek out and hire the best plastic surgeons in the business. And yet, they both look like frozen wax sculpture versions of themselves. They can’t make normal facial expressions. They always look like they are grimacing. EVERYONE can tell they’ve had work done. It does not make them look any younger, just freaky.
I just thought I’d record this here so that when I am pushing 60, and thinking, “Boy, I’d sure like to shave a few wrinkles out of this double chin!”, I remember Dolly and Priscilla, and decide to age gracefully instead.
Well, I definitely think that Dolly’s work is way better than Priscilla’s. Priscilla looks like her face was reconstructed after a bad car accident. Dolly’s just looks like it’s had too much plastic surgery.
In their defense, there is a tonne of pressure to look young and beautiful if you’re a woman in Hollywood. I suppose they felt they had to.
Well, maybe that’s not true of Dolly who had her boobs done ages ago to proportions that just don’t make sense.
I totally get that there is a lot of pressure to look young, especially when you are famous. I’ve seen some okay plastic surgery — Cher in particular has had a ton and I think she still looks pretty good. But these two…ugh. I can’t believe that looking at them makes anyone think that they would look better with plastic surgery.
As for Dolly…I thought her boobs were totally natural? I’ve read many times that they are 100% hers.
Huh. Just checked out her wiki page and yes, it seems she had implants in the 80s after weight loss caused some shrinkage. Seems she was big before, but now, it’s artificially enhanced. Sigh…is there nothing natural in Hollywood these days?
hee hee… no, no… Even Dolly admits they’ve been “enhanced”.
Here’s one site’s description:
When she crossed over into pop and became a media superstar in the late 1970s, she was significantly overweight, although her small frame and costuming made her appear average in size everywhere except the breasts, which were very large and quickly became the target of late-night talk show host jokes. At the time, whenever asked if her breasts were real, she said they were real. In the mid-1980s, she lost a considerable amount of weight. In interviews afterward, she avoided answering whether her breasts had been augmented, referring to any procedure as only a “lift.” In 2002, however, she admitted for the first time in separate interviews with The Irish Independent and The Daily Mirror that after the weight loss in the 1980s, she lost a great deal of breast size and subsequently obtained breast implants to bring them back to a similar size as she had prior to the weight loss. Since then, she has made ample jokes in media interviews about their not being natural. She even once joked by saying “Yep they are mine! Bought and paid for!”.
And Cher might look alright, but have you seen her in an interview? She can’t move her mouth. It’s odd.
I also happened to catch Dolly and Priscilla on TV this week, even though I’m not watching either of these shows this season. I used to wonder why all older celebrity women didn’t just get the very best plastic surgeons in the business, assuming that a “bad lift” was due to the surgeon’s mistake. But I’m sure that a big part of it is just an individual thing — some people’s skin just handles the pulling better than others.
These two are not the scariest out there. Have you seen Mary Tyler Moore, Joan Rivers or Janice Dickinson?
Yes, yes, and yes. Those three ARE really, really scary. Why can’t everyone just be like Olympia Dukakis and Meryl Streep?
Now I remember where I recognize Dolly Parton’s “look” from!
I think Cher should have left her face alone and had plastic surgery done on her voice.
Totally. I rest my case.
