I Am Haiku Master

Two of my haikus are finalists in the Haiku Buckaroo contest. You can vote here. Both are nominated in the “most evocative” category — the one beginning “venomous white snakes” and the one beginning “tiny and trusting.”

There is chocolate on the line here people!

Feel free to pick the haiku that you like best, but if you’re looking for direction, “white snakes” is leading the voting so far.

Ouch — the rendering of the haikus on that page is awful. To me the 3-line presentation is part of the essence of haiku. I’m so disappointed that they didn’t preserve that.

(I know you have nothing to do with this; just wondered what you thought.)

Oh, and you should know: I didn’t realize both of your haikus were in the same category; I brushed over your post and knew that your “white snakes” haiku was in one category. But I decided in advance to read them all and choose which one I really thought was best. And in the end I chose the “tiny and trusting” haiku, not realizing it was yours. It’s very touching. (Unfortunately it looks like it isn’t going to win).

Awesome! I’m so glad you liked it. The girl running the contest actually picked that one out as one her favourites, too.

As for the rendering — oh man, I so totally agree. It’s almost unreadable. I think she had no choice as she was working with a standardized online form for the voting, but still…eep!

They’re both wonderful, but “Tiny and trusting…” is my favourite of them all. I had to vote for it!
