I don’t usually hang out on YouTube, but someone sent me this little clip video and I just loved it. In honour of the AFI’s many lists of “100 movies,” someone made an assembly of movie clips that actually mention all the numbers from 100 down to 1. Some classics, some interesting rareties, and some silliness too. Any movie lover will enjoy!

Kind of long for the internet age, but I watched it all, and it was really cool. I was particularly pleased to see both Monty Python (43) and Spinal Tap (11, of course!) represented. I think I would have used Holy Grail for 37 though…
What was your favorite number?
Of course, I am partial to “Docking bay 94,” from Star Wars. But I also really liked, “I could eat 50 eggs,” from Cool Hand Luke, because it’s so iconic that it was the perfect choice for 50. I could say the same about “One ring to rule them all,” for number 1.
Although I really love movies, I would say I could only identify maybe 2/3 of the selected clips. I’m totally obsessed now with identifying them all. I figure a good chunk of this weekend will be devoted to transcribing all the quotes, then searching for the matching movie title!
Oh – reminds me of that crazy song quiz we all worked on shortly after I came to California (when was still in Canada). Incredibly, I still have a ‘todo’ list from that, but not the original. Of course with the search technology available now, it would be a snap to Google any quote and find the source. I wonder how long it will be before we’ll be able to do something similar with these movie clips…
I was surprised at how many I did recognize, and I’d be interested to try and identify them all, but I so don’t have time for that…

The web is so awesome. For fun, to test my claim that you’d be able to identity any of those song quotes in a second on Google, I tried a couple. Needless to say I was rewarded quickly. But what was even funnier was that on the second try one of the hits was actually the whole quiz!
