I have a really bad habit of getting obsessed with one particular breakfast cereal, and eating it every day for weeks, and then dumping it like a boyfriend who still lives with his mother. As a result we have, like, 20 boxes of cereal in the house, mostly half-full versions of cereals I used to adore, but now can’t eat. Sir Monkeypants is very indulgent with me on this front but he does like to call me Seinfeld.
Captain Jelly Belly has picked up this trait — this is how I know he is my kid, because heaven knows, he and Gal Smiley don’t look a thing like me. Since he has a limited diet as it is, and cereal is one of his primary sources of iron, I’m always ready to spring for a new box if that’s what he wants to eat. A couple of weeks ago, he was all about the Multigrain Cheerios — morning, noon, night, and at snack times. Then we went to visit my mom, and she’d bought some Cap’n Crunch for Sir Monkeypants, and CJB loved it. When we got home we bought the economy size (enough for a whole fleet of sailors to eat for a week) and he snacked happily.
Then last week, at his school, they had a Teddy Bear Picnic, and had Honeycomb as a snack. Now, the Cap’n is out on his ass, and it’s all about the Honeycombs. The day before yesterday CJB asked me to call Sir Monkeypants at work and ask him to pick some up on the way home. Since then, I don’t think we have had a meal or a snack that did not centre around Honeycomb. We’re already 3/4 of the way through the box…which is great, because our cereal cabinet is now so full, there actually isn’t any room for the Honeycomb box!
First of all, Gal Smiley looks just like you. For her first year, she was like a little clone of you, but now I’d say she’s the perfect blend of you and . I have a picture of her and CJB as my computer desktop, and everything I lock the machine I think “man, so cool how Gal Smiley is this 50-50 blend of you two.” I don’t think that CJB looks like either of you guys, except for those Bojani ears. 🙂
I didn’t know you were so fleeting with cereal. I find this odd considering how dedicated you are to other foods. What’s also strange is that other I can’t eat the same thing twice in one week, I often eat the same cereal every morning for years on end. I think I’m into two with bran flakes.
Holy typos in that one. I wish LJ let you edit your entries instead of just delete them.
“everything” should be “every time”
“other I can’t” should be “although I can’t”
“into two with” should be “into year two with”
Oh man, speaking of Bran Flakes, I totally forgot to include the little story of and her Bran Flakes. When we lived together in fourth year, she had Bran Flakes every morning, and as she finished each box, she kept the empty container, and put it up on top of our kitchen cabinets, like little trophies of regularity. The empty boxes went all around the kitchen faster than you would think — certainly well before the end of the 8 months. Impressive!
Huh. Interesting. Kinda odd, but interesting. 🙂
I go through a box a week, and it’s the PC box, which is bigger than the brand-name brand’s box. Mr. Art is always in total amazement.
I posted about bran flakes a while back, but I can’t stress enough the importance of working up to a full bowl. So many folks equate bran flakes with too much regularity, but that’s just because they ramped up too quickly. Ya gotta take it slow!
Hm. Now I’m hungry for cereal…

Yeah, that was a strange thing to do. I thought it looked cool, which explains why I have no sense for decorating and why our house looks the way it does. I also thought it was funny how quickly I went through cereal. I still eat cereal a couple of times a day, but I don’t go through it nearly as quickly. Which is a good thing, since I don’t have the same metabolism that I used to …
You can? I know you can enter your own posts, but I only see a delete button on my comments on other people’s posts.
I hear ya on both counts: I can’t decorate worth crap and my metabolism packed up and left about 3 years ago. El crappo!
I’ve almost made my way way through the fleet sized box of Cap’n Crunch. I have to admit I do love the stuff and I hadn’t had it for years so it’s been pretty easy going despite the size of the box. Plus it means that I’ve had cereal every morning for breakfast for weeks — except those two days when we had no milk.
Cap’n Crunch is obviously high in sugar (and low in fibre) and I think of it as the most crap of all cereals — at least of those without marshmallows. I’m always surprised when I compare Cap’n Crunch to other cereals and it doesn’t jump out as crap. Things like Life or Shreddies — they’re not that much better for you.
I have to go now .. CJB is having some Honeycomb.
