TurtleHead + Wilco 4Ever

FameThrowa made me a CD of a band she likes, Wilco. I listened to it last night on the way to ultimate and loved it instantly. I can’t remember the last time I fell for a band right away like this, if indeed I ever have before; it’s almost like a new crush on the boy who sits next to you in English class. I actually laughed out loud because the music made me feel so happy and in love. And it’s weird how the music is new to me, but every song felt like I’d heard it before — not in a derivative sort of way, but kind of like when you have a really great date, and then you get in your car afterwards all giddy and swoony, and want a familiar song that totally rocks to blast at top volume and sing along with on the way home.

All good, baby!

    Thanks so great to hear!

I think you might have fallen for Sloan pretty quickly, but maybe not right away. I can’t recall.

I know what you mean about their stuff seeming so familiar. Wilco is a very listenable band. I mean, most of their stuff you could hear on a radio, but for some reason they just never made it big. Maybe it’s not so much that it’s familiar than it’s comfortable, like slipping into a warm bed after a long, cold day in winter. Ahhhh…

That’s hilarious. You changed the title of your post. Was that from a listening sometime this afternoon, furthering your love?

Oh, and I should point out to the masses that Wilco just ain’t a band I like; they’re my favourite band.

This used to happen to me a lot when I was in high school. And so rarely now. I think it’s because I don’t hang around music stores the way I used to, and (being a somewhat old dog), I haven’t absorbed the new trick of getting inspiration from websites like Pandora, etc.

I remember the last time this happened to me though — I discovered Joydrop in the HMV at Bayshore Mall when we were visiting you during our green card trip. Too bad they broke up after that album.

Ya, there’s nothing more frustrating than discovering a great band just after they’ve broken up, so you have no chance of seeing them live.

It’s hard work, finding new music. I think I’ve posted about that before, how it’s like a part-time job for me.

I pick up most of my new bands from Internet radio, which I’m fortunate enough to have here at work. Amazon’s recommendations sometimes come in handy, too, but for that to work you have to be pretty diligent about rating the stuff on there.

I don’t find Pandora useful because they play anything from your genre, and just anything often isn’t good enough.

I pride myself on having good subject lines but my post before was rushed so I couldn’t think of anything good. Later I thought of this new one and I figured no one would notice if I changed it, for my own personal pride.

But I guess I’m busted :). The new one is just cuter :).

Yes, well you know that I’m a complete freak for noticing things that no one else would catch, so don’t worry too much about it. 🙂
