A few weeks ago we called up our friends Dave and Agi on a Sunday morning and said, “Whacha doooooin?,” which is TurtleHead code for, “We will be over in 20 minutes expecting entertainment and snacks.” After crashing Dave and Agi’s planned trip to the park, during which our kids played very nicely together for quite some time, making us believe that world peace is an actual possibility, we wrangled an invitation to lunch (naturally). Friends of ours who don’t live in our city have no idea how lucky they are!
Dave and Agi live downtown so we popped over to Kettleman’s bagels for a half-dozen fresh buns and headed back to their place. At home, even though Agi claimed she was due for a grocery store visit, they had an amazing array of on-hand food in their fridge. At a moment’s notice Agi was able to produce fresh broccoli, carrots, red pepper, green pepper, cucumber, and lettuce from their crispers. They had sliced meat and fresh cheese and apples and grapes.
I was totally amazed in particular at the veggies. Usually we buy stuff and it sits around in our fridge for weeks until it makes a puddle of goo and then I throw it out. If someone were to pop over to our place for lunch, I’d be lucky to have carrots with a whitish coating and a greeny potato on hand. Not good!
So since then I’ve made a real effort to a) stock a wider variety of fresh veggies, and b) eat them every day. So far it is working out great — I think I could be an Agi someday. Someday, in my dreams! In the meantime, we haven’t had any puddles of goo in a couple of weeks and we actually made it through a whole cucumber. Yum!
I think you meant to say: smorgasbord.
I’m pretty sure that you’ve mispelled this on purpose just so I could correct you. You’re pretty swell, ya know?
