Amazing Race

So the finale of The Amazing Race is next week. Any predictions from the watchers?

I have to say, this season hasn’t been as good as the others. I found there was too much “bunching” of the racers in the middle of each leg, so the first 45 minutes of each show was rendered irrelevant. Plus, this season there is an unusually high number of racers that I don’t like, which makes it hard to get excited about the ending. If Kris and Jon don’t win, I’ll be pretty peeved.

I still have hope for next season, though. , the next series starts on March 1 if you’d like to check it out. Amber and Boston Rob — from Survivor — will be one of the couples, but don’t let that discourage you :).

I haven’t liked this season as much either, mainly because it’s felt too much like “reality tv” with everyone bickering and fighting amongst themselves. I enjoyed the previous season much more when people actually worked together as a team… I just don’t get much entertainment out of watching people fight.

Hey, thanks for the update! So one season is just ending, and the next one begins in a month – it seems TV really is changing! But I think I’ll try to check it out; hopefully I can fit it in between all the TiVo and all the DVD boxed sets I’m trying to catch up on (hmm…. I think there’s a livejournal post in there somewhere)…

I just re-read this post and it only clicked the second time… are you saying that people from one “reality” show are actually participating in another “reality” show? What is this, some new form of life, the reality show junkie? Or a new kind of celebrity, the “reality show star”? Maybe that’s the only kind of career that being on a reality show prepares you for – other reality shows!

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. Weird, huh? The Amazing Race has actually done this once before — not this season, but the one before, one of the couples had previously been on Big Brother.

With Amber and Rob, I’d say this is definitely a way to prolong their moment in the sun. Not only did they both do Survivor twice (they were the final two on Survivor All-Stars), but they are also planning on starring in a reality show that shows them planning their upcoming wedding. I guess for The Amazing Race, it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement — Rob and Amber get some publicity, while Race maybe gets a few new viewers who know Rob and Amber from Survivor and are interested to see how they are doing these days.

And as for the back-to-back seasons, Race used to be a summer-only fill-in show, but this year they decided it finally had enough viewers to make it part of their regular programming. So, to get enough episodes for a whole “season”, they had to film two competitions at the same time. Should be interesting!
