Wow, I’m surprised you put Tom Cruise in your “to be shot” category. I would thave thought Richard Gere or Michael Douglas would have been higher. Nice!

Did you see the Faking It episode on TLC where the librarian became a coyote ugly dancer/bartender/seductress? It was pretty good. She pulled it off.

I admit I was influenced by your choice, but it just seemed so right. Although everyone knows how much I dislike Gere, Douglas, and Baldwin (the unholy trinity), none of them are quite as famous as Tom Cruise — and such, they can’t have such a big, negative impact on the movie industry as Cruise. Lately I find Cruise has moved from simply obnoxious to holier-than-thou, I-am-great-and-cannot-be-challenged type behaviour that makes my eyes roll. Maybe I’ll have to add him to the unholy list!

I’ve never seen the show, but I’ve heard of it. I’ll keep my eye out for a repeat of the episode — sounds like a TurtleHead dream come true!

I just thought of another movie that makes me bawl like a baby every time I see it, multiple times — Armageddon. That probably qualifies as a guilty pleasure, as well.

Also I am not super happy with my “in hell” selection. Although Top Gun’s action scenes give me a major headache and Tom Cruise is totally arrogant, it does have the redeeming qualities of Val Kilmer. Surely there must be a film out there where I have to see Michael Douglas’ butt, or Richard Gere’s butt, or Alec Baldwin’s butt, or — heavens! — all three, that would be worse torture :).

Okay .. I was able to tell the good guys apart from the bad guys even when they were in their planes; I still don’t see how you can’t. That aside, the most redeeming quality about the movie isn’t Val Kilmer (he’s actually kind of a dork in the movie) it’s Goose. How can I be sure? Well .. does anyone actually call him by his real name? I think not. He is Goose.

Wow! Someone who agrees with me on what the greatest movie of all time is!

I am constantly showing people Almost Famous, assuming that they’ll fall in love with it the same way I did, but people just don’t seem to get it.

So glad to find someone with some real taste! 🙂

P.S. Have you seen the “bootleg” director’s cut?

Cameron Crowe is one of my favourite filmmakers and I think Almost Famous is his best. I used to run a movie-reviews website and AF was the only film to which I ever gave a perfect score. I just thought it was so funny and true and sad and beautiful. The Tiny Dancer scene is probably my all-time favourite use of music in a film. I agree with you, I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t adore this masterpiece!

I have seen the director’s cut and I love it too. Did you see it on DVD? Did you watch it with the commentary track? It’s Cameron Crowe talking with *his mom* and it’s just hilarious. It’s amazing, too, how much detail in the film is directly from Crowe’s life. His bedroom in the film is apparently just like his real-life bedroom as a teenager, down to the last item, and the red suitcase of albums he pulls out (a going-away gift from his sister) is the exact same case that was used in the real-life matching event. Cool!

I have the director’s cut dvd, and yes, I’ve watched it with the commentary. Whenever people tell me how boring commentaries are, I point them to the one on Almost Famous because I think it’s wonderful how he does it with his mom.

I think Cameron Crowe is great too… I have Vanilla Sky and am part of the minority of people that think it’s brilliant. I’ve seen Jerry Maguire and I really liked it, but I haven’t seen it since it was in theatres.

Anyways, a friend of Crowe’s is a friend of mine! I’ve added you to my friends list.
