So it turns out that although Ken Jennings is home now, he still is an unbeaten champion. Yesterday’s episode of Jeopardy was the last one of this season, and of course, he won. Not only that, but he won $75,000, beating the one-day winnings record (finally).
The show is now on hiatus. New episodes return on September 6th with Ken picking up where he left off as returning champion. So far he’s won 38 days in a row. Maybe next year he can do a whole season!
We’ve kind of been watching Jeopardy more lately too with Ken’s amazing winning streak. I thought I’d read that his streak had already been ended and they were just waiting for the taped shows to catch up, but maybe I misread and he’s still unbeaten.
Watching him play it’s hard to imagine anyone beating him – he’s so much better than anyone they can find to compete with him. I was thinking that he dominates Jeopardy like Lance is dominating the Tour this year, but Ken’s mastery is so complete (and utter?) I think he’s more like the Eddy Merckx of Jeopardy.
I thought it was interesting, though, to notice that sometimes near the end of a round he stops doing categories in order of dollar value and starts going for the big dollar values, maybe with his eye on the clock. Do you think he’s angling for the Double Jeopardy clue or just trying to get the most money before the clock runs out?
